About

Dr Ailsa Wilson Edwards is a urological surgeon specialising in functional and female urology.

After graduating with Honours from the University of Adelaide Medical School she undertook her specialist urology training in Brisbane. This was followed by her high profile fellowship at University College London Hospital at the Institute of Urology (London) where she subspecialised in Female and Reconstructive Urology, developing expertise in surgical treatments for urinary incontinence, fistula, urethral diverticulum, neuromodulation, pelvic pain, and fluoroscopic urodynamics. In 2012 she returned to Adelaide, working across Calvary North Adelaide Hospital and setting up the Functional Urology Service for the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN).

  • Member of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Womens Health Products Working Group as the nominated representative of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
  • In the Medical Benefits Schedule (MBS) review of Urogynaecology items Dr Wilson Edwards was the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ)-nominated representative
  • Member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) Female Urology Special Advisory Group.
  • Principal urologist of the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) Functional Urology Service, and Urology representative in the NALHN Pelvic Floor Multidisciplinary Service.
  • Member of the Calvary North Adelaide Medical Advisory Committee
  • Peer-to-peer mentor for Medtronic (Pelvic Health)

Research

Dr Wilson Edwards has published internationally in her subspecialty. She was awarded the inaugural USANZ Arnold-Low Prize in 2016 for her work as national lead investigator on the randomised controlled trial of biofeedback devices for pelvic floor muscle training.
